Well, I'm a little biased about the Twilight series. I absolutely adore it! I've known about it since 2006 (only a few months after the first one came out) and the obsession began! LoL! I don't normally like vampire books either--too bloody and violent--but her vampires are unique and completely intriguing. I definitely suggest reading them!
It's not surprising that you haven't read anything by Stephenie, though. She only has four books released right now (three in the Twilight Saga and one completely separate) with the fifth coming out in 12 days--August 1st. But, if you like Twilight, I also recommend her sci-fi novel The Host. Excellent, excellent book!
