First let me preface this by stating that I am a perfume collector, and love reading, discussing, and researching anything that has anything to do with perfume. But this is really a fascinating and fun read, following the creation of two different perfumes, one by Jean Claude-Ellena, inhouse perfumer for Hermes, and one by Sarah Jessica Parker. Chandler Burr is funny, intelligent and honest in his writing, and I will certainly be picking up whatever he puts out. He definitely knows how to find a story and get the best stuff - brainy but not condescending. This is okay - I'm actually listening to the audio version, and maybe I'm irritated by her voice because she sounds so whiny sometimes and I just want to shout "Someone paid you to travel around and have no responsbility for a year! Damn, enjoy it a little!" All the crying, and whining, and depression discussion is bringing me down. And, generally, her metaphors are pretty pitiful and cliche so I find that immensely annoying also. Love, love, loved this book. I only gave it a 4 because I totally wanted more fashion tips and more indepth stuff (having read Tim Gunn's Guide to Style and *loved* it also!!) Lani was so right, this book is funny, charming and a quick read, but I have already purchased a copy from amazon because it is one of those books I can see me reaching for on many occassions. Kevin and I already made the turkey meatballs for dinner one night with spaghetti and the boys loved it (I diddn't have any, but they smelled amazing!!)
