You will either love this novel or hate it. I found myself among the latter group. McCarthy is a wonderful writer, and the style all his own is commendable. But the story here does not hold steady any worthwhile narrative this powerful author could construct. At times this novel is a very good thriller- but I don't read McCarthy for a very good thriller. More often than not, the novel is highly violent machismo masquerading as depth. And I view the film the same way. The character of the Sheriff, who really is the focal crux of the novel's point, seemed expendable to me. I understood that he was (trying) to wax philosophical on the nature of the world and law enforcement, but if he says or undergoes anything truly profound it was completely lost on me. And, yes, the Biblical parallels with temptation and a couple falling are obvious, but that does not constitute depth, either.

Still getting a lot out of this. At times this is far too cerebral for its own good, but that's hardly a mortal flaw...

If you are ever in need of a book and feel in the mood for it, I would give it a shot, then. It's hard to describe, but the writing style isn't all exactly the way "The Road," was, but you can very much tell it's by the same author, if that makes sense...

A very good, interesting, gritty graphic novel with some incredibly engrossing art. It pains me to compare a novel to its film adaptation, but the without negatively saying anything about this graphic novel, the film Sam Mendes film adaptation vastly improves on the story. The more pulpy and sensational elements are replaced with more realism and thus a more affecting story.
