Oh. I wonder if I look at a family tree with everyone in it I'll manage to make sense of it all.


I'm a bit sad I've finished the books, and a bit glad as well, because well written as it is, Gemini almost feels like a coda to the first seven books. And all the political going-ons went completely over my head.

And now? The whole series goes into my "to be re-read" pile, along with the Lymond Chronicles, for me to actually read slowly and appreciate the details. I began skimming through the second half of the book very fast, simply because the book started to annoy me. There were too many people, too many things going on, too many concepts introduced and chucked away, and almost nothing is explained. It's like the author has too many good ideas but can't concentrate to flesh out any of them.

The writing is stilted and I keep hearing in my head someone reading the passages in a monotone. Some of the dialogue is downright terrible, especially when tons of exposition go into them.

Certain things I predicted when I started the book (or rather when I finished the last one) were correct, much to my astonishment.
