Every tin-foil-hatted conspiracy theorist needs to read this. Yep there are conspiracies, but the people involved in them don't sound very bright. And they're not very secret. The (often noble) intentions of dim-witted conspiratorial boffins will always end up in the hands of cruel grunts in a place like Abu Ghiraib. The truth? I don't think I can handle the truth.

Dark, depressing, a good page-turning mystery that kept me guessing, even though some parts of the puzzle were obvious early on. I probably shouldn't have read this, 'Tethered' by Amy McKinnon and 'Dark Places' 1-2-3 in the space of a week or so- things that aren't really cliched start seeming so.

So I wonder if the prequel to the Tripod books is a prequel that you really need to read *last*- like the prequel to the Foundation (Azimov) series- which kind of ruins the next 10 books if you read it first?
