Knowing this was a self-published book, I expected poor writing and some major deficiencies. While it wasn't poorly written, the first five chapters really would have benefited from the attention of a good editor.
After that though, the story took off. A lot of people have grumbled about this or that in The Shack, but I found nothing to grumble about. Does this book portray God as female? No. Does it minimize the deity of Christ or the reality of the Trinity? No. Does it speak of our nature as wounded children in need of our Father's love? Yes. Does it proclaim the healing and redeeming power of Christ. Yes.
Read it with an open heart. Expect the Spirit to move. And just see what happens. Maybe nothing will come of it. Maybe it'll be just another book. Maybe you'll hate it, but you never know until you pick it up and read.
