This was a really good historical fiction. It was a very believable and sweet story about a seventh grade boy, his girlfriend (the daughter of the CEO of the rival architecture company of his father's), their friends, and the teacher, for some reason, he is convinced, hates him. There are many stories wrapped into one and the characters are deep and honest. Fantastic book, Deffinitely reccomend it.

I'm rereading it, and for some reason it's not as great as I remember it. Maybe it's becaouse I've be reading some utterly fantastic stories that are character driven, but I think it is to drive the plot onward, mainly. Can't really get into the details when Pirates are fighting a war. Besides that, absolutely fantastic.

I don't see why everyone is giving it so many bad reviews. The characters were naive, sure, but back in the day, NO ONE knew about the Holocaust until America went to war.
Any book that makes me cry for an hour and afraid to wear stripes HAS to be good. I mean, honestly. I was so angry at the characters, so ripping sad. I was just plain emotional after reading it.
And you adults saying it was unrealistic and all, I think it's actually the most realistic Holocaust book I've read so far. He was a CHILD. Of course he was going to get the names wrong. If you READ the book, you would see that he didn't JUST speak German. Gosh, sometimes goodreads people make me so mad.
