I really love this series, but this book in particular seemed to drag. Part of the mystery was laid out really early, then lots of other things happened that seemed like filler and then finally the mystery solving that didn't start until the last 20 pages or so. I'll be continuing with the rest of the series for sure since I've enjoyed the previous installments so much, but I hope this is just a fluke. ]]>

Wow. There was so much going on in this book. The writing flowed nicely making it a quick, easy read. Within that writing were many complex story lines and flashbacks that made it anything but fluffy. With everything going on, I felt like I missed a lot of the "deeper" things.
As far as the characters, I found them hard to keep straight in the very beginning, but it got easier as the book went on and I learned the little idiosyncrasies that made them each individuals. I came to absolutely adore Martha, but never felt much attachment to anyone else.
I rarely feel strongly about the blurb on the back of the book describing the plot, but that was probably my biggest turn off to this book overall. I would have been very drawn in by the author's foreshadowing throughout the first 2/3 of the book except for the fact that the summary gave all but one detail away and even that was pretty easy to guess. I was glad the author saved a couple twists and turns for the very end of the book, though. I didn't see any of those coming and they really kept me engaged in the book until the very end.

This book is a perfect example of why Mary Higgins Clark is one of my all-time favorite authors.
I love how she subtly identifies so many suspects and keeps the reader guessing until the very end. I've read many of her books and have yet to figure out an ending before she actually reveals it. Her books never drag and, while I'm glad to know "who dunnit" in the end, I'm always still a little sad when they end. ]]>

I felt like that, too. It started off just flying by and then drug horribly through most of the middle. It was a relief when I finished the book even though I enjoyed it for the most part. ]]>

There was lots going on in this book, but it felt like nothing really happened until the very, very end. I'm all for suspense and surprise endings, but it typically helps to have more content besides just macho language leading up to the conclusion. ]]>
