This book shakes the very ground I walk on. It is rooted in 19th century liberalism, when liberal believed in liberty (as opposed to the liberal spending of other people's money).
"The law is perverted! The law - and, in its wake, all the collective forces of the nation - the law, I say, not only diverted from its proper direction, but made to pursue one entirely contrary! The law become the tool of every kind of avarice, instead of being its check! The law guilty of that very iniquity which it was its mission to punish!"(less)

"Difficult for me to decide on the number of starts.
5 because the ideas in this book shake the very ground I walk on.
4 because it's very technical and assumes knowledge of some economic terms.

He repeatedly notes how war accompanies debauchery and frenetic sex, and I'm like: Shit. Guess I missed out. Story of my life, dude.
Still, good book. A little more damning of the endeavor that I would be, though not by much. Also he's a witness to the recent massacres and collective madness in the Balkans, or El Salvador, or elsewhere. I've never seen a complete break down of discipline.
So yeah, maybe a little too sweeping in his statements, maybe a bit weepy, but he's got the experiences to back it up.
I think it's a courageous book.
My favorite parts were his anecdotes from the Balkans.
