I mean, if that's your thing, I got no truck with that, but I feel like we could've gotten a li'l sumpn sumpn more of one of the few dynamic scene in a book in which most of the narrative is taken up by waiting around for stuff to happen, including a huge chunk where the protagonist is literally laying tied up motionless on the floor. Also, I don't know if that's an actual choice Eggers made or he's just not good enough of a writer to write that scene in the way that it should be. This is another problem with the whole retarded "this is a novel but it's based on the actual life of etc etc" concept: not only is there a question of who decides what the story being told is, but also who decides how the story gets told.
