I liked the writing and the premise was original, but I'm just not that into short stories. I like taking the time to really delve into character and plot. I can see how the teenage girls might be into this book. It didn't do much for me as a near 30 year old married woman with children. I think the authors tried too hard to make this into a teen version of High Fidelity (as far as I know, I've only seen the John Cusack movie, haven't read the Nick Hornby book).

As a parent, I appreciated that the main characters weren't druggies or lushes, but I felt as though they trivialized sex. In their words, they were "straight edge," meaning they have fun with out drugs and alcohol, but sex, well that isn't such a big deal. Don't you just love a book that surprises you right up to the very end? Although many parts of this book should leave you feeling utterly depressed, it's actually quite uplifting and a great read. At first I was a little confused because the story jumps around chronologically from chapter to chapter, but ultimately I think that's one of the great things about this book - how it all comes together perfectly at the end. I can't wait to see the movie now (Slumdog Millionaire). ]]>
