I know...too much input, differing input, instant karma with misrepresenting the bulbs origin, class distinction and yet at least a single bulb blooms begging the question if left alone would the bulbs have all bloomed?

"Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know"...sums up Lord Byron and this quote is by one of his lovers-Caroline Lamb. O'Brien's portrait is more on the lines of an article for Vanity Fair-short, salacious, and forgiving of all of his rock star faults. I felt no closer to understanding Byron as an artist or a man after reading her work but I also could not put it down.

My understanding is that Capote liked the book up until she won the Pulitzer and was somewhat unkind after that.

Lauren wrote: "Sbaird wrote: "My all time favorite is Mapp and Lucia with Prunella Scales and Geraldine McEwan. I must admit living in Los Angeles whenever it does rain-that is what goes into my DVD player!"

..."
Based on the books by E.F Benson it is a series of vignettes of British upper crust life in the 20's and 30's. Mapp and Lucia have a rivalry which is so much fun to watch in a little seaside town named Tilling. I highly recommend both the books and the TV series. There is a great omnibus called I believe Make Way for Lucia.

On another note I would agree that Joan Hickson was the definitive Miss Marple. I have found that around the holidays-her dvd's go on sale on the Barnes and Noble's site. So I have been able to gradually add to my collection.
I am so glad to see your review. I love the author in interviews and honestly have picked up and put this book down for a year now. Of the third of the book that I have read I absolutely agree that it just plods-so I have been saving it for a day where so much else has been going on that a little plodding would be a pleasure. Did you see the relation to the Great Gatsby in the book? In a recent interview Joseph O'Neill referenced the influence.
