This is the first of a three part series. Fox, Gage and Caelib are the main characters of this novel. The three men share a birthday- born same day and same time in the same town- and are best friends forever. While they share all of this... they also share the burdes of Hawkins Hollow. On the night of their 10th birthday these three boys made a camping trip to a place in e woods by their home called the pagan Stone. There they performed a ritual to become blood brothers. At midnight (everything happens at midnight!) as thier blood comes together and a drop spills to the ground- they unleash a power like no other that haunts them and the people of thier community every seven years for three days. No one is sure what it is but everyone knows... it is not good. Now 21 years later.... the signs of the demonic activity is starting early and is stronger than ever before. In steps three women (because well- what is a story without us!!!!)who will change the dynamics forever- for the brothers and for the demon!
I love Nora Roberts storgeytelling and while the reviews I read on this book were not to favorable..... I decided to be the judge I am glad I did! I have found the book a fun and very quick read. Glad I did not miss another one of her tales!!!!! ]]>
I have always wanted to travel to India- bengal tigers- the sights and smell of the wonderful food (samosa anyone?)the colorful saris and yes even the daily hustle and bustle of the crowded streets of Delhi. I have finally decided to do it and so as is my tradition- I marched myself to Barnes and Noble to buy my Insight Guide. I get one every time I travel. I have Thailand...Peru... China.... Tibet....the list goes on and I still pull all of the old ones out and look at them periodically. What I love about these books are not that they have lists of hotels- resturants- etc (they do but not very extensive). They are visualy beautiful accounts of the sights/ sounds/ land and people of each country. You will learn the history... boy will you learn the history- and then you will discovery each region as it is presented section by section.
By the time I leave on an adventure I have a GREAT understanding of the place but the excitemednt of what to expect has not been so solidly laid out that the trip is anticlimatic. It is torally presented as the Discovery Channel would be expected to do.
And yes- I am going on a bengal tiger safari to view these beautiful animals (hope I see one) and yes... the Taj Mahal is on the list of must sees. I do not usually hit too many tourist spaces. But come on... it is a wonder of the world!!!!!!! ]]>

So.... I am excited about going to India this year and I marched myself over to Barnes and Noble to buy an Insight Discovery bBook and came out with this in addition. It is BEAUTIFUL- VIBRANT and very interesting!
The cover is even different. As you touch the sari it has velvet on it where the designs are. There is just something wonderful about books for me.... they are a sensory experience- the texture, the weight, the visual appearance- even the smell. While I have never tasted one I have totally digested many a wonderful read!!!!
Books are like travel, no? Sensory experiences that take you to great marvels!!!!!
Anyhow- this book is a beautiful preview of what I can expect in the near future.

I got this book 29 years ago from my forner mother in law when I began my student teachinbg assignment with Kindergarteners. it had belonged to my former husband and she said it had been one of his favorites. Well, one day I brought a blown up red balloon (helium) to school inside of a box (I called it my magic box) and sat the children down at circle time. I told them that something very special was inside of the box and had them guess. When I opened the box and the balloon popped our everyone jumped up and began trying to catch it. Once the excitement simmered down I got everyone settled and read them the story of the red balloon. For the rest of the day after the story- the children shared the red balloon and treated it nicely- not trying to grab it or fight over it. Of course I had a timer to help with the turn taking. ;) The rest of the semester whenever trouble would brew- with unkind acts to one another I would remind them (and sometimes they would remind each other) about the red balloon.
It is a timeless tale and I think there is now even a movie about it. ]]>
OK.... so it is the holidays and I am cooking crazy! This is an AWESOME- not your stone soup variety- cookbook. I got it about 4 years ago on the Barnes and Noble sale shelves (and I still see them every time I am there). The receipes are interesting/ some are unusual takes on common soups AND are not complicated to make! If you love soup- you will love this!!!! Watch out Cambell's!!!!! ]]>

I was surprised to find so many interesting things to make in a slow cooker. This book gives details to make everything from spicy almonds to wasasil... oh yeah and main courses, soups, sauces and more. I really found them interesting and looking fairly easy to make. I have a crock pot and I must say that I have not given it much use but after reading this book I am going to get it out- dust it off (oops)- and start cookin'. ]]>
