Fascinating, heartwarming story. I can't count the times this book, which takes place during WWI, had relevance to the times we are in. The racism, war, hard times, etc. Wonderful book.

I wanted to read this because I've seen several movies and they are different. Found that it is most like, or rather exactly like, the version with Maggie Smith and Kate Maberly. Enjoyed reading it.
