"Going Old School in the Age of Obama - This one absolutely sucked. I see what the author was going for, but...eugh.
Anasazi Breakdown - Not too bad, although I feel like the author could've taken the premise further.
The Coffin Deliveries - Mediocre and forgettable.
Where Wolves Never Wander - I wish the author had taken the premise further; there's a lot of unexplored potential here."

Mike is on page 30 of 128 of Bites: Perpetual Pest and Ghost Dog are remarkably similar - they would both be three stars, due to general cheesiness and an overabundance of cliches, except for the excellent twists at the end, which push them up to four stars.

The Summer of Firsts and Lasts by Terra Elan McVoy
"I was really excited to read a book about summer camp. But I'm just not sure that this one tickled my fancy camp slippers (with matching pajamas, of course).

With a camp story, you expect: the grand arson of marshmellows at the end of woodland stic..." Read more of this review »

“You can't know what an experience will mean to future-you until you are future-you. You need millions of seconds of perspective, which ultimately, only time can buy.”
John Green

Patrick Ness
You must speak the truth and you must speak it now, Conor O'Malley. Say it. You must.

Conor shook his head again, his mouth clamped shut tight, but he could feel a burning in his chest, like a fire someone had lit there, a miniature sun, blazing away and burning him from the inside.

“It'll kill me if I do,” he gasped.

It will kill you if you do not, the monster said. You must say it.
Patrick Ness, A Monster Calls

John Green
“These are all direct quotes, except every time they use a curse word, I'm going to use the name of a famous American poet:

'You Walt Whitman-ing, Edna St. Vincent Millay! Go Emily Dickinson your mom!'

'Thanks for the advice, you pathetic piece of E.E. Cummings, but I think I'm gonna pass.'

'You Robert Frost-ing Nikki Giovanni! Get a life, nerd. You're a virgin.'

'Hey bro, you need to go outside and get some fresh air into you. Or a girlfriend.'

I need to get a girlfriend into me? I think that shows a fundamental lack of comprehension about how babies are made.”
John Green

Malinda Lo
“Julian was always trying to convince her that E.T. had already visited Earth multiple times. One night in Dolores Park, while they were hanging out on the swings in the playground, Julian told her about meeting an alien abductee in Golden Gate Park the weekend before.
"He had an implant in his lower back - he totally showed me the scar and everything," Julian said [...].
"Yeah, I'm sure that's what he was showing you."[...]
"You're just jealous you didn't get to see his ass.”
Malinda Lo, Adaptation

“I don’t care what your excuse is, I don’t care what you think God told you to do, if you are in the business of closing children’s minds and obliterating their capacity to imagine, and depriving them of a capacity to laugh, then you are a criminal. Maybe not under the law, but under any decent system of morality.

Shame on anyone who brainwashes a child and attacks their individual liberty and deprives them of the freedom that is the very definition of a human being. Shame.”
Michael Grant
