I loved and hated this book. Rand's use of a novel to make the case for libertarianism / capitalism is powerful. Here heroes regularly refuse to do anything for anyone for any other purpose but their own self interest. AS such, they don't love anyone nor do they seek love in return (until, perhaps, at the very end of the book). I found it unsettling, though, when such views carry over into their intimate relationships. The "bedroom scenes" in the book aren't by any means graphic, but the emotions of the characters engaged in "intimacy" are disturbing. They pointedly tell each other that the purpose of sex is not to express love but to celebrate life. This part of Rand's project significantly tainted the rest of the book for me.
