The writing here is assured and remarkable for a first novel, but I wouldn't have picked this up were I not curious about the nature of its bestsellerdom because the story itself doesn't cover the themes I love in my fiction. I am more than ever convinced that if you title your book *Someone's* Daughter or Wife you have a much better chance of reaching the bestseller list. Very readable literary suspense with some holes. The end wasn't quite the right tone, either, but it had me guessing the whole way through. Overall I liked it but it was not as successful as it was ambitious.
