This is a long book, or at least it seemed that way to me since I listened to it on my Ipod. It's not something that I would normally have picked up, I'm not that into fantasy stories, but this was actually an interesting combination of "real life" and a "dreamworld" that the characters can cross over to by various means and forms. The majority of the story is set in a big town or small city, and starts with the main character, Jilly, being hit by a car. She is seriously injured and confined to a hospital bed. From there the story takes off and takes you through poor rural towns, Los Angeles, the fictional city of Newford and of course the mystical dreamworld. The characters were all interesting especially the "good girl" Jilly and her "bad girl" sister, Raylene. The concept of an onion is used not only as a literary device but also as a way to describe the lives of Jilly and Raylene and their feelings and emotions. I would probably give this a 3.5, with my one issue being that the book dragged in parts and seemed to repeat the same theme multiple times.

I had high hopes for this novel, but unfortunately, they weren't met. I found the main character, Eilis, to be rather flat. There's no depth to this character, she seems completely apathetic, drifting from situation to situation performing her "duty". Her relationships come across as superficial, especially her relationship with Tony.

This could have been a really interesting book. The concept of a young Irish girl sent to live in Brooklyn, away from her family and friends, developing a relationship with an Italian boy, etc. has so much potential. I just felt that it wasn't fully explored as well as it could have been.

Fun, fluffy detective story with a heroine that is too cool to be true. While there is always a bit of the unbelievable in these mysteries, this one takes it to a new level. There is a fair amount of cricket in this story so if you're not into it, you might get bored with those parts.

This was an unusual story in that the main character is dead, but I liked how the author wove a story about her and her relationship with the living. I'm not big into cars or vintage car repair, so some parts dragged a bit, but aside from that, it was a fun read.
