First Grade stinks is a great book to read at the end of Kindergarten, or at the beginning of first grade. The students in kindergarten are very scared about going to first grade because they loved kindergarten bur this book ends with a little girls loving first grade because you get to read chapter books in the first grade. She realizes that there are things you get to do in First Grade that you didnt get to do in kindergarten. This book can also be used on the first day of first grade to explain some of the things that you will learn in first grade, and excite the kids about a new year.

Using A House for A Hermit Crab for a math lesson works very well. Once the teacher introduces the students, possibly Kinder to pattern you can use this book for an activity. The children can identify the differnt types of pattern throughout the book and then create there own hermit crab. The students will get a bucket full of sequence, beads and shells which they can use to create their crab. The students will focus on making their hermit crab shell out of patterns.

I love this book, it is by far one of my favorite childrens books. Reading this book on the first day of school really helps the children to realize that they are not the only ones that are scared on the first day of school. Keeping your attention throughout the entire book it entertains the kids to find out that the teacher is scared of school too.

This was the book that I used corresponding to Five little monkeys sitting in a tree. This book also helps the students to visualize how to count. When using these two books I had the students help me make charts stating what they thought the book was about by looking at the cover, what they knew at the end, and how the two books were alike. Using the hula hoops for this lesson and having the students place the correct word card in the circle was really great for kindergarten. The students were very envolved and seemed to enjoy this book and the lesson.

I used this book for a direct teach in a kindergarten classroom, and it worked great. Using this book for a math lesson really helped the children visualize how when things go away the number gets smaller. I had the children use there hands to show me the original amount of monkeys and then take the amount away as they go into the water. The students would then tell me how many monkeys were left.

After being put to bed without supper by his mother, Max imagines sailing off where the wild things are, becoming the king of the wild things and eventually returning to his own room where hot supper awaited. You can really use this book to invite creative drama in the classroom. Having the children act out this story with puppets and costumes would be really great in the classroom.
