As long as I am in grad school, this book (and Tufte's other 3 books) will remain on the "currently reading" shelf. Tufte's collected examples of good and bad graphic design for information are simultaneously informative and inspiring. Genius. Anyone who needs to effectively analyze and communicate information to others will benefit from these books.

Ha ha, just kidding. But seriously, I am reading this, slowly, for cause, which is the only reason why anyone would...

Update: It did the trick. Quick access to many little tricks that would have taken too much time to think up myself. Sweet. Recommended!

This is a really cool book. Part cookbook, part cultural journey into the heart of 8 traditional Japanese Pubs (Izakaya), their chefs, staff, customers and food. Fascinating stuff, makes me want to go back to Japan just to eat. According to the author, Izakaya food will (or should) be the "next Tapas bars" in American cities. I recently learned that the first two have opened in Seattle, so he may be right.

An enjoyable easy read, funny and entertaining, occasionally a bit preachy, occasionally a bit self-referential. This is the author's second book, and about half-way thorough I found myself wishing I'd read her first: "Funny is Farsi." The author is at her best when describing her family's life in Iran, and in America, and the funny things that could have happened to anyone in either place, and to only those who have lived in both. She is not at her best when writing about being a writer, and the process of publishing and promoting her first book. It seems a lazy move for a second effort. At it's best it is laugh out loud funny, and you just might learn a thing or two about Iran and both the circumstances and character of those to risk everything to immigrate to a foreign land.
