I've decided that it's never easy to tell what I'll like and what I don't like. I worry that my tastes are fickle and arbitrary, but Darkk reckons it's more ephemeral - some undefinable quality that makes something stick or not. It also sort of depends on my mood and expectations.
Overall, though, I seem to like complex characters but simple plots. One thing I don't like is needless convolution and excessive details - especially in things like landscape or other minutae that are, overall, irrelevant to either the plot or character... Which isn't to say I don't like books which make you think - but too many people confuse convolution for erudition or insightfulness, and it's rather annoying.
Anyway, when I'm not reading or over-analyzing, I watch a lot of movies, a little TV, I'm an amateur philosopher, actress and poet. An idealistic cynic... a whimsical grouch... an artistic pedant... a brooding dreamer...
