1. I wanted to see the movie, but thought I should check out the book first.
2. I learned that it was an Oprah Book Club pick. She has also endorsed Beloved, the Corrections, and East of Eden... so she must be onto something, right?
I liked the book, but didn't love it. The plot was gripping, but at times I found the language stilted. I have this issue a lot when reading translated works. I become consumed by the thought the words I'm reading aren't as poetic as they are in their original language. I would recommend this book who are looking for a short and compelling read who are interested in life in West Germany after WWII. I went through a phase where I read every book on the subject that I could find. I'm not sure how I missed this one.

Kate Klien, a young mother living in a wealthy suburb, decides to investigate the murder of a fellow playground mom. I have read a few of Jennifer Weiner's books, and they all are pretty shallow, but easy and fun to read. And this book definitely fits the bill.

A painfully realistic look at high school life. I thought that the narrator and protagonist, Lee Fiora, was one of the most three dimensional young females I have come across in literature. Sometimes she isn't likable, but that's what all real people are like.

I think that David Sedaris is at his best when writing about his own life, and this book is chock full of stories about Normandy, South Carolina, and New York. One of my favorite Sedaris collections.

I think Jodi Picoult always has really interesting ideas for books, but I think she is a pretty crummy writer. Her dialogue is so unbelievable that I cringe when reading it. I think I'm done with Jodi Picoult at this point, despite the fact that Plain Truth was a mild page turner.
