"Usually I don't read short stories anymore. But I was a bit bored, so gave this a try. I like it. The style is very slow and gentle, reminescing of the early King short stories. The strange, weird, paranoid things you can see in everyday stuff. An gentle narration, slow pace, deliberation and pensive mood.
The man is more about words and poetry than actual action."

I raced through this book in very little time, considering that I listened to it while working. The fact that it took me only 2 days, says something about the quality.
First the good:

Loved it, but it wasn't as stunning as The Way of Kings.

My, oh my! I thought The way of Kings was brilliant, but Words of Radiance turned out to be even better!

I just can't wait for Szeth's flashbacks! According to Brandon's assistant the earliest they might manage is early 2016, not 2015 though.

What is a woman's place in this modern world? Jasnah Kholin's words read. I rebel against this question, though so many of my peers ask it. The inherent bias in the inquiry seems invisible to so many of them. They consider themselves progressive because they are willing to challenge many of the assumptions of the past.

They ignore the greater assumption--that a 'place' for women must be defined and set forth to begin with. Half of the population must somehow be reduced to the role arrived at by a single conversation. No matter how broad that role is, it will be--by-nature--a reduction from the infinite variety that is womanhood.

I say that there is no role for women--there is, instead, a role for each woman, and she must make it for herself. For some, it will be the role of scholar; for others, it will be the role of wife. For others, it will be both. For yet others, it will be neither.

Do not mistake me in assuming I value one woman's role above another. My point is not to stratify our s

Chana knows, I wondered sometimes how I raised that child without strangling her. By age six, [Jasnah] was pointing out my logical fallacies as I tried to get her to go to bed on time.Brandon Sanderson
Cilfa is 72% done with Words of Radiance: After all that has happened in this book, this scene brings me to tears. Adolin having been in prison with Kaladin all that time, without K knowing it. Bromance, people, bromance :-)

“There's more magic in a baby's first giggle than in any firestorm a wizard can conjure up, and don't let anyone tell you any different.”

“Authors also create lovable, friendly characters, then proceed to do terrible things to them, like throw them in unsightly librarian-controlled dungeons. This makes readers feel hurt and worried for the characters. The simple truth is that authors like making people squirm. If this weren't the case, all novels would be filled completely with cute bunnies having birthday parties.”
Brandon Sanderson, Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians

Patrick Rothfuss
“It's like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.”
Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind

“My behavior is nonetheless, deplorable. Unfortunately, I'm quite prone to such bouts of deplorability--take for instance, my fondness for reading books at the dinner table.”
