But publishers are publishing for the market, of course.

And with the Giller, the award organizers choose juries that are likely to select a certain kind of book, which in turn promotes a certain kind of book as the epitome of Canadian literature.

Lots of really good Canadian writers working outside that box don't even get considered, and the huge promotional push that the Giller provides therefore goes to one kind of book and not to another.
