"Artemis Fowl strikes again. This time he goes against an opponent as deadly and smart as himself, because it is indeed his past self. The book stuck with the formula and was fun.

What is in a name? Would a rose by any other name really smell as sweet? Mr. Jack Worthing is about to find out as he proposed to the love of his life. There is only one small problem, she knows him by the name of “Earnest”. A completely fabricated name to separate a single life. The life of Jack and the life of Earnest. As the secrets of a name begin to unravel Jack/Earnest finds himself stuck between a name.
This was hilarious. I thought much of the play was witty. The ending for the play was a little cheesy, but this did not seem to put a damper on the rest of the work. Overall I give this book and “A”.

In this conclusion of the Twilight Series the time for decisions have come for Bella and Edward. A decision between eternal life as a vampire and living a human existence must be made.
As a major Twilight fan this book was difficult for me. The characters do things that are uncharacter-like all with the clear sense that the author is doing this merely to try to wedge in more drama where there otherwise would be none. The major plot in many ways is just nonsensical. But what really plunged the stake into this vampire novel for me was the conclusion. Everything builds up to the conclusion, however convoluted the build-up was, only to fizzle and die. The action sequence which was pushed since the first page does not materialize. The only fun part of this story was the section told from Jacob’s point of view, but even his “happy ending” turns out lame. Overall I give this book a “D+”.

In the mid seventies Steve Martin was quickly growing into one of the country’s best comedians. By 1978 his bookings were the largest in the history of stand-up comedy. By 1981 he turned his back on stand-up comedy forever. Starting as a program distributor at Disneyland Steve works his way up trading his way into bigger and better venues. Through his entire trip he has one goal in mind: be the showman. When he becomes the biggest stand-up comedian he realizes he doesn’t enjoy it anymore and leaves to try his hand at movies.
This book did not necessarily make me more of a Steve Martin fan, actually I think I am less of one now. The book did, however, show an interesting portrayal of the life of a stand-up comedian. The ideas he develops in life are sometimes bazaar and entertaining. Other’s are a bit outlandish and stupid. I liked the frank matter that he presents everything. The transformation of going after a dream until, the dream fulfilled, he realizes he is sick of the dream gave something to ponder about. Overall score: C-.

With the satiric wit and flashy dress of an ancient skeleton action, adventure, and a little skullduggery is destined to ensue. Skullduggery Pleasant and his teenage accomplice Valkyrie Cain are back to save the world through magic, detective work, and a little mayhem. An ancient sorcerer has broken from prison and plans to unleash ancient powers that would devastate the world. The detective duo follow the clues to try to discover the sorcerer’s plan, all while trying to still fit somehow into the real world.
Like the first in the series this book thrives on action. There are hardly any moments when something isn’t about to jump out at the heroes. The plot was not as established as the first and a few of the climax scenes were a bit predictable. Overall it was not as well done as the first book, but it was still a fun read. Overall score: B-.

An assassin works behind the scenes to restore Anhk Morpork to the glory days of kings. The most reasonable way to do this is, of course, with an inventive new weapon in one hand. Only one thing stands in his way… the city watch. With each step this criminal takes the more the watch needs to learn to work together to find him. This is hard when the watch has recently turned unprejudiced, due to the Patricians decree. Trolls, dwarfs, men, and women are all forced to work to work together. Only Corporal Carrot can keep them together. They would all revolt against him as well, if he weren’t so likeable.
I don’t know what I enjoyed more about this book the plot or the characters. New and interesting character continued to pop up all over the place in this book, such as: Creepy Clowns, A Genius Madman, and a Subconsciously Talking Dog. At the heart was Corporal Carrot who believes that deep down everyone is a good person and he treats them as such. He is an interesting character that keeps getting deeper the more time you spend with him. Overall I give this book an: “A+”. (Note: This was definitely better than the first book, but it may be wise to start with Guards! Guards! You won’t miss much in the way of story if you skip ahead, but you won’t understand the characters as well.)
