I expected to love this book with every fiber of my being. It started out promising enough, but it didn't take me more than a few chapters to realize I wasn't liking the main character as much as I thought I would. I wanted to praise her for her self-awareness and willingness to write about her own idiosyncrasies and faults, but instead found myself slowly despising her.

Not everything has to be drama filled and all about her. I found myself constantly feeling sorry for her family and friends that had to endure the constant tantrums and fits. At one point, her husband is trying to find out if one of his family members has tied in a terrorist attack, and she can't be bothered to care because the mayonnaise she is attempting to make will not come together. I wanted to reach in the book and shake her. This is a passing anecdote in the story, but it stuck with me.

That being said, I did enjoy reading the book. I enjoyed the glimpses into Julia Child's life. I enjoyed the descriptions of the kitchen disasters (though not of her utter inability to clean anything) and the overall development of the blog and the story. It took me a few chapters to get into this book, but once I had embraced the characters I was hooked. I loved the way she weaves the separate stories together. The reader is shown that no action (be it human or animal) has zero consequences. We are all living out this giant balancing act, and one wrong move can send the whole thing tumbling down. That being said, why oh why did she include that stupid last chapter?
