Wow. This is an interesting story. I enjoy the writing style of the author. However, at times the reading seemed laborious with too much detail that was unnecessary for the story. I am not sure what to think of the ending. I dislike it when I feel like the author didn't know how to end a good story and thus the story just ends. I had somewhat of that feeling with this book. Overall, I really liked the book and I am glad that I spent the time to read it. ]]>

This was an interesting read for me. It took me several weeks to finish it, not because of lack of interest, but I felt the need to stop and reflect on what I had read for days at a time. I found the writing style to be beautiful and rich. It was like eating a fine gourmet food that could only be consumed a bite at a time so as to be able to savor the flavor, texture, temperature and smell. My only disappointment, if I can even call it that, was the ending. I found that after such a beautifully told story, the ending was somewhat curt and cryptic. It left me wondering what the real story was, but I believe that was the author's intention all along. I heartily recommend this book. ]]>
The End, Ended as my least favorite of the Series of Unfortunate Events. It seemed as if they author had written all these stories of unfortunate events (kind of like a cynical sitcom on TV), but didn't know how to end the series. I kept reading thinking that there would be some great revelation to tie all the books together, that I would understand the stories, and when I hit the last page, I was actually stunned that I never received that understanding, knowledge or insight that I had thought would be obtained in the last book. I might have been better off taking the author's advice in the first book and set it down and never had read the series. ]]>
