Read it first at 16, then about every ten years thereafter up to age 64. Led me to believe (mistakenly) that I liked "science fiction." What I liked was Brave New World! And one thing that has deepened with every reading is my empathy with the character of Linda, John Savage's "mother." ]]>

OMG, you're actually reading Bellow. You're a better man than I. It is my belief that, like Styron's THE CONFESSIONS OF NAT TURNER, Bellow's HERZOG is one of the great unread classics of 20th century lit. I liked THE ADVENTURES OF AUGIE MARCH but found the rest of his oeuvre to be impenetrable. ]]>
