It was a fairly quick read, with a set structure and an easy colloquial tone, but sometimes it got a bit self-indulgent when it came to tangents, vocabulary, and philosophizing on a mass scale. Yet I think that that dichotomous tone works with the book's content. Chabon is confident and self-deprecating, hopeful and cynical, amusing and annoying in turns—and I think that's the point.
