This may prove to be my favorite novel of all time.

I've already read it twice and will probably puzzle over it for as long as I live.

I'll not give away any plot lines because I'm sure that interested readers will be able to find many of them via the 'net.

What I will say is that it might be best read "straight through" upon first encounter.

You will find more footnotes in this book than any other you may ever read, but go ahead and read them all. They *will* apply to the text proper and you'll have a richer experience for having read them.

However, I'll also add that if it appears to you that some footnotes are...well...page filler, you could very easily be right.

Follow your instincts, but don't get too bogged down. Read it at a pace that allows you to enjoy it the first time through.

If you find that, upon completing it, you want to go back through it with a fine-toothed comb, hang onto it. Reshelve it and go about your day-to-day existence. And when the day arrives that you're ready once again to venture into that *HOUSE*...bring a highlighter, a notebook, and more than a few No. 2 pencils.
