The first chapter of this book was great, but it went downhill from there. The history was okay but I didn't enjoy the writing. The author kept interjecting her opinions and I prefer more objectivity in a book. Tell me the facts and let me draw my own conclusions.

This book was somewhat of a disappointment. It sounded interesting on the cover but it just didn't have that certain pizazz I look for in a book.

I've always been interested in the life of Emma Smith and her sons and this book filled in a lot of blanks for me. I thought the author tried to present her subject matter fairly, allowing the reader to decide what to think of the "Josephites" and "Brighamites." David Hyrum Smith, Joseph and Emma's son, is a tragic figure -- a young man torn between loyalty to his family and his search for truth.

I really enjoyed this book. It made me reevaluate what's important to me and how I spend my time. It also made me examine whether or not I'm helping my kids to fulfill their dreams. Pausch had some profound insights about parenting. Although he was evidently extremely bright, his parents never bragged that he was a genius. When asked to describe her son, his mother often said he was "alert, an interesting choice of words.

This coming-of-age story about a young woman's life in Montana reminds me of "O Pioneers" by Willa Cather. I love the imagery in the book and Walker's comparison of mature love to winter wheat. "They had love that was deep-rooted and stronger than love that grows easily."

This is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read. During his life, Lusseyran learned two important truths: Joy does not come from the outside for whatever happens to us is within; Light does not come to us from without--Light is in us, even if we have no eyes.
