This is purportedly a children's book, but it is definitely a good read for adults. Gaiman tells the story of Nobody Owens, a boy whose family is murdered by a man named Jack. He comes of age in a graveyard where he is raised by a family of ghosts and a mysterious guardian. Nobody harbors thoughts of revenge and his path ultimately leads to a showdown with Jack. The return of Detectives Lomax and Biggs. Producers, actors, and directors die at the hands of the Hollywood Bloodsucker. No vampires are actually involved, but it's an ingenious form of murder. Witty quips abound. The killers garner more sympathy from the reader than the victims of their crimes. A behemoth of a debut novel at 642 pages. This is a twist on the classic quest theme and involves the search for Dracula. Kostova weaves three different stories (and different timelines) into the novel through the eyes of a teenage girl. You never learn the name of this girl. A 500 page plus behemoth of a detective story. Karp introduces the duo of Lomax and Biggs, two LAPD Detectives who are in over their heads. They investigate the serial killings associated with Familyland, a Disney-like megacorporation in Hollywood. Clever and witty, Karp writes a ripping good yarn.
