I will nominate "The Center of Everything" by Laura Moriarty. The cover looks like chick lit, and I let my Dad buy it for me at Costco when I was home visiting Iowa - all because the main character is a little girl named Evelyn (which is my second daughter's name).

Auspicious, I know. But then it became one of my favorite books EVER.
