<about>I think it's important to look at books as
people. Really be aware of the person behind the book and not just the information. Realize that the book is part of their spirit and is one of the infinite ways that their spirit could be manifest in words, while each spirit is unique. Recognize that this person is a person who is "on your side," in the world if you agree with them, and consider both the book and the person a friend. They are speaking to you.</about>

Also, I wonder what kind of a personality and energy one must have to do all of that exploring, it sounds amazing. Thanks for the review.

OK,that's good to know, I hadn't heard about how the other gods were usually quarreling with demon hoards and required shiva's assistance to help them. There's a few interesting points there, one, the nature of the spiritual struggle...It's continuous, second by second.
I've seen posters and images of krishna as a young child in a happy state but continuously kung fu battling constant demon attacks. This isn't the presentation of western spirituality. Christ is tempted by satan in a very courteous and time specific fashion. I think this indian image of constant vigilance is more accurate, and in a sense related to why one sees the multi armed deities--because their manifestations are ongoing. Also it points in some sense to an idea that shiva is superior in some way if he/she can repel demon hoards for other deities. Perhaps the other deities represent divine aspects within ourselves which can be corrupted by "demons" whereas shiva is more of a force and a dynamic that protects these divine aspects. Shiva smells like a goat, has matted dreadlocks, and is covered in funeral ashes...divinity isn't always what we think it is.

Interesting that you would ask about other books about shiva...I thought about it for a while and looked online, and realized I don't have a good answer for that, then I realized, I've learned about shiva in bits and pieces...it has been an adventure and I take what I can when it comes, which is usually unexpected. When I read that little piece Shiva, tender, yet severe, the situation was pretty extraordinary. I was in someone else's chaotic house,
the music was too loud, their cat was digging it's claws into me...and it was like in the eye of a hurricane some kind of little pearl of wisdom that I read an retained a little piece. Learning about shiva has been unpredictable and fascinating, never straightforward.

I asked my sister to buy me this book for christmas.
I watched paul stamets on tedtalks and decided it would be a good book to have. It actually took me a while to figure out exactly what this book is about since it is a somewhat original idea. It is about how mushrooms
can heal the earth in various ways, and it provides a lot of good information about various mushrooms and nice color photos. It has been inspiration to me in learning about different kinds of mushrooms and becoming involved with them. I am especially interested in medicinal mushrooms with the reishi in particular. I noticed reishi growing in my yard and have used it in tea as a immunomodulatory medicine. I learned it was the number one medicinal herb in ancient chinese medicine, above ginseng, also an adaptogen and medicinal herb commonly available.
