I agree, I kept waiting for her to denounce and escape from her parents, especially during the disturbingly frightening episodes. I was hoping that someone would step in and rescue her and her siblings from these unfit parents. But she presented so much of her life with so much compassion for her parents that I felt a bit chastened for my attitude. Not that I condone the neglect and abuse, but more that I could condemn it without really hating the parents as much as I wanted to initially. ]]>
