There are some people here who didn't care for this book, and that's their privilege. But I am going to go along with the Hugo and Nebula and Locus people and say it was excellent.

I've read it before, years ago, but I enjoyed it afresh this time. Pe...more

The author's notes more or less explain that he challenged himself to write a book full of short SF stories that are all different in kind and style. He has done so.

Each of us will like some of the stories and dislike others, but Roberts has handled...more

3.5 stars, really, but as a first effort it gets 4.

I happened to be re-reading Gaiman's "American Gods" as I read this one, and there's some similarity. Also perhaps a hint of Larry Correia's Grimnoir series. Those aren't bad things, and they aren't...more

A solid collection of good-to-very-good stories, from a fresher-than-usual group of authors.
Good variety, and several with endings that triggered a "wait - what?"
Thumbs up.

Some people won't like this, many will. I did. It's jolly clever.

Carl Hiaasen endorsed it in a cover blurb. That should be a warning.

But Moore got his fourth star from me for just four words,
calling Iago "a runaway scheme engine."

He's done his ho...more

Limit of Vision by Linda Nagata
" This is the sort of book where it was enjoyable as I was reading it, but I have a feeling that 6 months from now I'll have very few specific memories of it - it was a pretty straightforward thriller; didn't really leave any deep and indelible mark... " Read more of this review »

I think I was right in deciding not to watch the movie.

21st century guy in 1882 Wild West? Nah. I kept waiting for people to whip out their smartphones and start texting.

What the others said. Good fun, if you ignore the dialogue that's a thousand years out of place (and you should!). Nice integration of some real history.

I'll definitely read the rest of the series now.

"I read this excellent book years ago, and have never seen a copy since. That may explain why there are so few reviews. "
