Where Men Win Glory at first discusses two different topics: the life of Pat Tillman, and the political situation of the United States and the world during his life. A greater part of the book is devoted to where these two things meet, after Tillman joins the military.

Krakauer does a few things particularly well here. He profiles Tillman well, and you come to really admire him by the end of the book. He also presents the incident in which he was killed in an exciting way, which he seems to have a knack for. But even more than this, you come away with greater insight as to how f'ed up the military and government really are.
