If I wrote a complicated adult book and someone wanted to dumb it down by abridging it for teaching to kids, I'd be fine with it as long as it was made clear to the kids that it was an abridged version. (Like that would ever happen. :) ) I think that Shakespeare for kids is wonderful because the language is so challenging that youngsters might miss out entirely on his work when the poetry of the words is only part of the beauty. Good ideas, folks. What about this: we have one book a month but the discussion lasts two months and we alternate children's and adult books. So, for example, in December we have a children's book and in January an adult book and so forth but at any given time we're still discussing two books.
