This is a great book for a teen who may be facing obstacles. And, since we all face obstacles of one sort or another, this book may just resonate with most everyone. There are some "adult" themes and violence, but it is not gratuitous. The character development is well-done, and the voice is unique! Alexie's writing really reflects the native american dialect.

My twelve-year-old is not quite at this place yet developmentally, so I read it for my own enjoyment. I was completely absorbed for a few hours one evening. The author artfully wove tragedy and inspiration--while being down to earth and very funny.
