Thought this was pretty good. The topic was very different and interesting, and I did grow to care about what happened to the characters, particularly the narrator, which I found interesting since you would have thought based on the content, you'd be ...more

This one took me a little longer than expected- I really expected to laugh a lot, but it was not really that kind of book. However, Trevor has had a truly interesting life. I also loved how he explained Apartheid. I haven't done much research on the ...more

Truly riveting. I read the entire book in about 12 hours, and slept as part of that 12 hours (but barely because this was really creepy). I don't often get freaked out by things I read, but this one got to me. Really interesting premise and I loved t ...more

Not a big fan of this one. Just kind of silly and didn't love the characters. In contrast, the Winter Street series is much better at painting the picture of the beach town christmas.

Aria Beth Sloss
“Even now, I could no more chart her influence than I could the gravitational powers that rule the tides. I suppose that could be said of anyone we love, that their effects on our lives run so deeply, with such grave force, we hardly know what they mean until they are gone.”

Aria Beth Sloss
“The truth is that I understood very little of what she was saying. Before Alex, what thrills I'd experienced I'd found in my imagination, the result of burying myself in book after book. I depended, I mean, on escape for my various joys. It had never occurred to me that real life might offer the smallest portion of the happiness I found in reading, the ordinary scaffolding of my day to day a thing I'd made a habit of burying under a thousand imagined lives, each more inviting than the last. And then she came along and it was as though life were a Christmas tree and I'd discovered the hidden switch, the whole thing lighting up in a blaze of color.”
Aria Beth Sloss, Autobiography of Us
