Natasha read and liked Kirsten's review of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas:

Hard for the reader to relate to - so very naive it was almost hard to read - but when you think about it many people, not just children, didn't know what was really going on with the holocaust anyway. p.s. I didn't realize when I checked it out that this is Young Adult fiction (YF) - and the reading level + characters are way more JF than YF. But at the same time, most kids reading this wouldn't get it at all. You have to have at least some knowledge of the holocaust, nazi's, hitler, auschwitz, and gas chambers to really understand what's going on - since the main character doesn't know what these are and usually uses mispronunciations for them. So this book seems to not have a clear audience at all. I'm curious to see the film, though!(less) "
