My favorite book,... or at least in the top three (goddamn Hemingway). Anyway, a touching piece for me. So many parallels and so few excuses. I marvel at the authors ability to tell such a compelling and complete story. I 'read' somewhere that if words could portray everything there would be no need to paint. Okay, so I read this book a while back, but it was an amazing intro into what to truly expect and seek to understand from this wonderful continent of Africa. See, I was on my way there...in a few weeks, when I read this book. I wanted to get a bit of a grasp for what I was to encounter, and this book delivered. I read another as well, that I will discuss in a separate message, but this was a solid undertaking by a man who knows the continent well, who has lived there as a younger man, returned as an older man and knows of the Africa of which he speaks. ]]>
