I've read most of Tracy Chevalier's novels. This is one didn't really grip me. It's still very readable, just not up to the same standard as her previous works. The best thing about the novel were the descriptions of London, glad I didn't live there then.

I read this by the pool on my holiday and really enjoyed it. I gave it four stars because when I read historical fiction I like to learn just a bit more about the period whilst not being bogged down in detail. This didn't happen with this book which was a pity.
