Bennet and Hacker re-hash Wittgenstein's arguments to present a basic mereological point - that we can only meaningfully say of persons that they think, believe and so on, because it is human activity that gives the words 'think', 'believe' etc... their meaning. To say of a brain that it 'thinks' is therefore not even false - it is meaningless. It is nonesense. And so on.... The comebacks from Dennett and Searle are entertaining enough but the whole thing is somewhat pointless. The meanings of words are always extensible. They are not bounded by the behaviours that generated them, and the scientific attempt to extend meaning is not, in itself, dangerous or misguided.(less) "
