My #2 book of all time. I'm pretty sure I cried through 80% of it... actual tears running down my cheeks. What a beautiful story of redemption and charity. Do yourself a favor--read the abridged version. All you'll miss is Hugo's pointless ramblings. ...more

Okay... y'all know I'm obsessed with Illuminae already, but the team has really outdone themselves with this second installment in the trilogy. Although it was a bit slower to get started for me than the first book, in the end I grew to love the two ...more

I read this one aloud to my kiddos, and I'm so glad I did (both for their sakes, and for my mine). A beautiful story about August, a fifth grader with severe physical deformities who makes the brave decision to attend public school.

Loved this mystery! Interesting twist to cast the amateur sleuth as an actual WITNESS to the crime - albeit a drunken one who struggles to recall the details. Hawkins's characters were full and fascinating. I particularly enjoyed the complex psycholo ...more

This is easily the best book I've read in a decade. No exaggeration. It's in my top 10, if not my top 5 of ALL TIME. Just when I think I know what a book is, and what it can do, something like this comes along to completely shatter every boundary I'v ...more

This book completely revolutionized how I look at plotting a novel! Every writer should read it. Now instead of seeing ‘plot’ as a series of random events I somehow have to tie together (perhaps through that ever-illusive concept of ‘theme?’), I now ...more

I'm a K. M. Weiland fan! I can't imagine writing fiction without her.

This book offers some fantastic insights - definitely worth purchasing rather than checking out at the library, just so you can color-code and scribble margin notes. As a writer, I

This book rocked my world. I mostly daydreamed through chemistry class in high school, and would rather have knocked my head against a wall repetitively than studied it in college - so needless to say, I learned a lot from Kean's insights.

I mostly read this one—or rather, listened to the free audiobook version of this one—because it’s a staple that all literate people should read. And because my book club told me to.

But I was pleasantly surprised. Collins doesn’t have quite the gift
