This book was a very well-told ghost story! Shirley Jackson was masterful at giving hints of the supernatural and of the personalities of her characters without bashing the reader over the head with backstory detail of the house or its "guests."

I could picture the creepy old house in my mind. I could also picture a bubbly but in need of attention Theodora, a weathered Dr. Montague, and Eleanor with her sad little existence. The one main character I felt was a little less well conveyed was Luke. All in all I enjoyed reading the interactions between the four and the contrasts in the relationships over the course of the week at Hill House.

I really got engrossed in this book. I loved the way the format was similar to the format of Bram Stoker's Dracula. The interactions with famous people were written in such a way to render them believable. Mr. Reese did a great job of slowing building the suspense. This book also left me wanting to know more about Bram Stoker.
