q Why did you talk so much about the Singularity? Have you experienced a lot of people in the Bay Area talking about it?
Brian Percival:
Dec 11, 2012 10:15AM
q Some of the tension in the novel is between the old and the new, those who favor print books vs those who favor digital. Do you think that tension is growing or waning in the real world? Do ebooks destroy some of the magic of books?
Suzanne Skyvara:

Dan Brewster:
Dec 11, 2012 10:31AM
q What inspired you to write the kinds of puzzles you describe in the book? Have you ever encountered puzzles like that in the real world?
Zelda Sayre:
Dec 11, 2012 10:33AM
q: Is the Dragon Song Chronicles series based on an existing Sci-Fi series or was it entirely created for this book?
Arielle Kane:
Dec 11, 2012 10:36AM

Brian Percival:
Dec 11, 2012 10:38AM
@Arielle: I just read the book on paper, do you know if there's any additional content in the audiobook of Mr Penumbra? :)
Suzanne Skyvara:
Dec 11, 2012 10:38AM
q (These are coming in from friends) Did you model the secret society off any secret societies in real life? and What place do you see independent bookstores playing in the modern world (especially if they don't have secret societies involved!)?

There is an interview with Robin Sloan, and he also reads the audiobook within the audiobook (meta!). There is also some extra content within the plot

q You obviously have a justifiable soft spot for physical bookstores (e.g. Pygmalion), yet the ultimate fate of Penumbra's space on Broadway speaks to a limited future for bricks-and-mortar bookstores. Will we have physical book stores in 20 years?
Emmanuel Padilla:
Dec 11, 2012 11:26AM
