Hey! I just wanted to say that the first reason that I started reading your books was because I noticed that we had similar names. So my question was if you are planning on releasing a new series? And if you are, can you make it something that not every single author is making these days? It is either a helpless girl or a sarcastic girl. Why can't there be something different? Well thanks. And I love your writing by the way.

I've learned so much about writing from reading Avalon High and the Abandon books. I haven't read Underworld yet (haven't been able to get my hands on a copy) but if you leave a nasty cliffhanger and make me wait a year for the last book, I might explode.

Q As a reader I get invested in your characters, you develop them so well they become lifelike to me and I mss them when the book is done. As an author do you need 'downtime' between books to clear the characters from your head from one book to another?

q Do you plan on writing more teen chick-lit? Your princess diaries series was the first series I got hooked on. I regularly read the 10th book OVER AND OVER again. I've literally got it memorized. So as much as I like Abandon, it would be REALLY cool if you could have more protagonists like Mia and stories revolving around high school life. Hope you answer this. ^.^

Q Hi!! I was wondering if you based your teenage characthers in journals you might have written when you were younger or if you created them all from scratch! Because it's so brilliant, the language you've used, their thoughts, their actions, it's so believable and I have noo idea how you do this but every single book you write I devour! It's so beautifully written! I just can't put the book down!! (horrible for my bladder)

q I've been a huge fan since the sixth grade and your books inspired me to write books of my own, so first of all thanks for driving me toward my own passion. My question is that there's been a lot of discussion in the blogs that with all the Edward Cullens and Lucas Delos running through the genre all ripped, intelligent, kind, and loaded, YA novels are giving girls unrealistic expectations about the not so fair sex. What is your take on this as a published author? And do you think this statement is drastically undercuts the mental and emotion reasoning of the ebook generation? Lots of love and I'm so sad that this interview will be happening at 6 am here in Seoul. Here's to reading the transcript of this during my planning period! Cheers!

Howdy YAL :
May 17, 2012 01:01PM
Hi Meg, I've been a big fan of your books for years. I really enjoy the variety of plots and characters. There's not really a defined Meg Cabot characters because all of your characters are so different. Of course, with the exception hot guys...but even then you make sure there's variety in your hotness. My question for you is throughout reading Abandon and Underworld I couldn't help but think of The Mediator series. Are these two series somehow interely related? The reason I ask this is because when reading Underworld, I think John made an allusion to the fact that people who don't move on become ghosts.

Dear Meg, im starting a story and I already have someone who says they'll be willing to edit for me. I however, do not know how to get it published. So, whats the whole process for that?
Jaya Lakshmi:
May 17, 2012 01:38PM
I can answer that Leslie; first, you have to write a story
Jaya Lakshmi:
May 17, 2012 01:38PM
then you set it aside for a couple of weeks and return to it for revision
Jaya Lakshmi:
May 17, 2012 01:38PM
To get it published, you should get a literary agent for a novel and DuoTrope (search engine) for short fiction

q Hi Meg! First, I love your books, and you are one of the sweetest people I've ever met! You're so encouraging to young writers, and I immensely appreciate it. My question is, generally how long are your YA books in regards to word count? I've read many mixed things that YA books should be between 60-80k. I'm writing a novel, and I'm nervous it won't be long enough to get (possibly) published! Thanks :] xoxo Meg p.s. sorry for reposting this guys, I forgot the "q!"

q Hello Meg! You've answered some of my questions before, which has been incredibly helpful, and I adore your work. I'm writing a story right now and I know exactly where the plot is going, but sometimes not how everything builds up. I'm considering skipping ahead a bit and writing what I know will happen at that point in time. Do you think that this is a good idea? What kinds of problems can arise from not writing linearly? Thanks so much Meg! -Sonia
