Plot. Depth. Character depth. Anything that makes your eyes bulge out of their sockets and your heart pound as you turn the page to find out what's happening next. If you can do that, you get two thumbs up from me.
I agree. It has too be able to potray emotion and send forth emotion to the readers, without this you can't have a good book.
It must be well written as well... I've started liking "high" fiction more than genre fiction, thouh it is all good. I like something to have a deeper meaning than what is on the page. I want to think, and see themes, and symbols, and... all of that. Although every now and then, you need a break from that and I end up reading something very.. genre fiction. ^_^ Like a vampire story! or Koontz.
A good book must have original characters, otherwise you will get sick of them. They must also be engaging, putting the book down shouldn't be an option.
I'm of the kind that needs description. A *really* good book either wont let me leave it or when I come back to it, I wonder what the movie I was watching was called - I have to be able to see it in my minds eye, as if it were played out before me. Should be interesting too, of course.
