171430 Could someone (or more than one) with far better French, Spanish, and German than mine see what they can do with OSC's books?

Thanks!

290848 I did most of the French/Spanish that was un-matched. However, I left some that were the usual case of being "adapted" rather than literal translations of the original English titles; someone familiar with the series might have an idea on those perhaps.

171430 If you can tell me what the translated title is, I can help with that. I'm pretty familiar with OSC's work.

290848 "Esperando el venado" = WAITING FOR THE DEER (?)

I don't know where "Jason Valois" fits in with OSC's books.

"La strategie de l'ombre" = SHADOW GAME (?)

171430 "Shadow Game" = Ender's Shadow

"Waiting for the Deer" has to be Hart's Hope.

I've never heard of Jason Valois!

416390 I found a whole boatload of authors who could use a LOT of work: philosophers. No one bothers with those guys at all.

171430 Got help on "Jason Valois" from someone over at OSC's Hatrack forums (thanks, docmagik!). Jason Valois = Jason Worthing, so book 1 = The Worthing Chronicle.

Paul, could you give some specific author names, please?

171430 The trouble with these guys (and gals) is they tend to have multiple versions of their names, as well as many translations. Not to mention books with similar-but-not-the-same titles.

I did what I could with Descartes and Spinoza. If someone (especially a French speaker for Descartes and a German speaker for Spinoza) could check them over, that would be good.

290848 I didn't feel too comfortable combining more of Decartes without copies on hand to be sure the contens matched exactly between French and English titles.

Whoops. Posted in the link instead of here. Yes, I'll try to devote some time to it this weekend. Exactly how much time depends on the progress I make reading my book club book.

83445 Somebody(s) combined a lot of the Hamlets with a lot of the Complete Works of Shakespeare. I'm trying to separate the Complete Works first. There were A LOT more than I could see when I first perused.

I realize I'm not sure enough of Lewis Carroll's works to work on him. Don't know which are the same or different books with all the Alice's and Through the Looking Glasses, etc.

171430 I can do Carroll on Sunday if no one else gets there first.

83445 I just separated the Complete Shakespeares away from the Hamlets with latter left combined. (I'm not positive that I got them all; my eyes are blurred!)

What do people think about recombining the various editions of The Complete Shakespeare? My tendency would be to combine them but there are some differences between them, I think.

186853 I would agree that it would make the most sense to combine them.

41490 I'm not feeling industrious enough to tackle all of Lewis Carroll, but I just separated all the Through the Looking Glasses from the Alice in Wonderlands and re-combined accordingly. Notes for anyone who tackles the rest: Alice in Wonderland, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Alice's Adventures Underground are all the same book. The sequel is Through the Looking Glass and/or Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There.

In re: either of these: what's the policy with abridgments? Do they get combined with the regular book, or go separate? (I didn't separate any of them because I'm really very lazy that way this morning.)

I haven't touched foreign editions of either one, with the exception of ones that were really obvious.

While we're on the topic of Carroll and Shakespeare: Amazon added The Complete Works of Shakespeare by Lewis Carroll (http://www.goodreads.com/book/.... Since it's Amazon, is there any way to actually fix it, or will it keep reverting to this nonsense?

951046 Brandy,

Re: The Complete Works of Shakespeare by Lewis Carroll. I just deleted it from Goodreads. [I have to admit that I'm already beginning to regret this rash move, but done is done.] Let's see if it reappears. If it does, perhaps a more sane thing to do (i.e. rather than delete it), is just change the author to William Shakespeare. Then, since the ISBN number is in the Goodreads database, I suspect it won't be added again by Amazon.

83445 It's still there or it's back:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/...

Probably an edition with a forward by Lewis Carroll but no other information at Amzon.

Just signing off BUT do wonder if that's so or if it's even an edtion of Tales from Shakespeare by Charles and Mary Lamb. Probably the former. I'm not ready to change the author but it probably should be chnaged to William Shakespeare.

951046 Re: The Complete Works of Shakespeare by Lewis Carroll.

I've done a little research on this book and am convinced that it is a mistake, probably caused by some computer snafu.

I reach this conclusion for the following reasons:

This book is supposed to be a Wordsworth Children's Classic. I checked the entire Wordsworth catalog online and there is no such book in their Children's Classics or anywhere else in their catalog. Then I went to ISBN search engines on the internet. Some of them have it listed and they suggest certain online bookstores that may have it. I checked all of these (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Abebooks, Alibris, eCampus, and Ebay). Most of them don't have a book with that ISBN (i.e. 1853268119) and those that do don't have any in stock and don't know when they will get any. Finally I checked the entire ISBN directory on LinkBaton (see http://my.linkbaton.com/isbn if you want to check it out) and they do not list that number as having been used.

So that's good enough for me. Since the book apparently cannot be deleted without being re-added, I'm going to change the author to William Shakespeare and put a note in the book description suggesting that this book probably doesn't exist.

Otis, if I err in this, please let me know and I'll change it back.
